Birds and Bees

Eleanor and Jon David are in HOG HEAVEN this week. Their Aunt Abby and Uncle Jason are here visiting. They loooove their Aunt Abby and Uncle Jason. Aunt Abby and Uncle Jason run and play and act super silly. For example, we had everyone over last night for Abby's birthday. Eleanor immediately adorned Aunt Abby with her Strawberry Shortcake hat, pink butterfly wings, and sparkle wand. All night she referred to Abby as "Strawberry Shortcake Butterfly Princess". As in, "Strawberry Shortcake Butterfly Princess, would you like another piece of birthday cake?"

But, Aunt Abby is ever so very pregnant. And Eleanor is oh so very intrigued. I think she's a little worried that she will wake up one day with a baby in her tummy, too. So before bed the other night I tried to reassure her.

I explained to her again that Baby Jackson Dylan will stay in Aunt Abby's tummy until he's big enough and strong enough be born. I told her that Mommy carried Eleanor and Jon David in her tummy, too - So far, she's staying with me - Then, I assured her that ONLY mommies and daddies can have babies. Not little girls. Hmm.

Here's where the hamsters in her head really start running. I imagine her clever little brain trying to shoot holes in my flimsy explanation. I hold my breath. The seconds tick by and I actually start to get nervous...we could be here a LONG time. Suddenly her eyes light up in understanding and I breath a big sigh of relief. For a tiny moment I even let myself think maybe I'm going to be good at this Birds and Bees stuff. These delusions of parenting grandeur are oh so quickly squashed, though, when Eleanor grabs my hands and exclaims in her ever so proud and sure way, "YOU carried me and Jon David in YOUR tummy........and DADDY carried LAMBY in HIS tummy!”

I decided that was close enough for one night and who was I to burst her bubble?! I kissed her good night and she drifted off to sleep with Lamby tucked under her arm...very content in her new understanding of the world. Now I just have to figure out how to explain this all to Jonathan.

What an adorable learning experience for both Ella and Mommy. I thought Mister Abby looked pretty cute in the hat and wings. She is an angel just like you, Courtney.

Thank you for saving these stories for all of us to enjoy forever.
